Teething Advice
Hello all I decided to make a post about the tips and tricks I do to console my baby bear. I already made a post about my teething 7 month old but I wanted to elaborate.
1. Massaging gums. Like I've said before I like doing these as natural as possible especially for my babies. I also like saving money. So I like freezing wash cloths and using them to massage my baby's gums or letting them chew on. We all have washcloths right?
2. Gnawing on knuckles! Yes this free and natural teether is perfect for our little munchers. I let my son chew on my knuckles for a few minutes. He bites pretty hard so I don't do it for long but he enjoys it. Wash your hands before of course and after. Keep them germs away!
3.Teething feeders! They look like pacifiers but they're not. They're super cool cause they allow your baby to enjoy fresh fruit and veggies without them choking and the plastic nipple part massages the gum. How they work is you place a piece of fruit in the nipple and the tiny holes act like a strainer. Keep big chunks in while your baby munches and sucks on it releasing the fruit. They come in a plastic nipple and in mesh form. My son loves these so much he's a chunka munk.
4. Frozen teethers. These are the ones with water inside the plastic toy or ring that you would freeze. They're the traditional form of a teether. These are good to help numb the gums. My son doesn't care too much for them but sometimes he likes to suck on them for the melted water from the icy edges. My daughter didn't care much for them at all.Plastic toy teethers. Now these are different than the frozen ones because they have no water so you don't freeze these and they're shaped with bumpy ridges that massage the gums and numb them somewhat. My baby boy loves these cries without them.
5. Teething mitts and teething bibs. Oh my how my son loves his teething mitt! They're so cute! So you put them on your baby's hand and he can just put his hand in hi mouth and chew on the mitt which is textured and also makes a crinkle sound. The bibs also are textured and great for catching their slobber and they can chew on.
6. Breastfeeding. If you are a breastfeeding momma you already know the magical powers you possess lol. Anytime your baby cries and you just start nursing them they completely calm down. They start relaxing and just enjoying your comfort. They look into your eyes and sometimes just fall asleep. It's very beautiful. But at this time they will also bite you and take your nipple captive. They will not release it until they've satisfied their pains need of numbing the gum. I feel they chew it to somehow numb their gum and to see your reaction to it. I usually try to escape when that happens by unlatching and waiting a few minutes before latching again.
7. Teething tablets. Now these are the greatest things ever invented! I'm just kidding...Or am I? These tiny tablets easily melt under your baby's tongue. You just pop one at most 2 tablets under their tongue and under 10 minutes your baby's calm. I usually only ever use 1 for my babies. My son mostly always feels better after these and goes to sleep after nursing him.
8. Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. And finally if your baby doesn't respond to any of the above because maybe it's just a really bad day. Or maybe the pain is just too much. So then I give my baby some pain medicine. I'm not going to let him suffer and I get it. It's tough and they just need to rest.
So that was my list and experience with both my babies. Hope this was helpful. Also in the winter I wear a teething scarf. They're teething necklaces as well. I've heard about using vanilla extract and clove oil to numb their gums but have no experience with this. If you know any other tips let me know.
