French Toast

I'm a very simple gal. I like making sandwiches for picnics, walks to the park with my babies and just staying home cooking. Sure I like getting all dressed up and going out to the movies or shopping. Maybe a concert here or there. But generally speaking I enjoy the simple things in life.

Like writing I love writing! Writing has always been for me. Music. Another great therapy. Listening to some great music that I thoroughly enjoy and that's resonates with me. Baking and cooking are also really great. I like trying new things. New foods, new recipes broadening my horizons one step at a time. It may sound silly but slowly that adds flavor to your life.

So today I made some french toast. I love french toast! Ever since having my son 7 months ago and having some a the hospital i'm in love. It was my first real meal since they gave me dinner very later after I had him I just had whatever he hospital had left. But the breakfast for the next day I got to choose.

Now I've had french toast before but it'd been a while since I had had it. It was delicious! Maybe I was just starving but it was awesome! A little piece of heaven in my mouth hat day. See a simple food like that made me feel just a bit better. And now when I have the ingredients I make it.

Anyway I made several pieces for my daughter and I. She loves it as well she just said "mmm yummy mommy that looks so delicious I can see it! " ( her referring to the steam coming from the toast) That melts my heart and makes me feel like I am special like I've done something of importance. I know I just made french toast but to hear words like that from your 3 year old it carries weight in a mother's heart. That's a memory I just made with my baby girl. I'll remember that forever.  I poured some nice maple syrup on top and we enjoyed ourselves.

Here's my recipe for french toast in case you don't already know how to make it.

Ingredients

6 slices of bread (I use regular sandwich bread)
2 eggs (I use 2 large eggs)
2/3 cup of milk (I use 2% milk)
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Pinch of salt

I use a plain fork but you can use whatever you'd like to combine the eggs, cinnamon, sugar, vanilla and milk. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat with oil or butter. Then drench the bread making sure both side of each slice are completely covered. Place the pieces of bread on the pan/griddle and cook both sides until golden brown. Serve immediately for optimum enjoyment.

*TIP*
Serve with maple syrup or fresh fruit. You could even top it off with some powdered sugar.
